the Top 5 Characters to be excited about in this year’s summer films!

Every year around summer we are greeted with a platoon of new films, among other summer-y things. While the new films mostly consists of superhero flicks or straight up action films, you can’t help but get overly excited with what new eye candy awaits! Along with the new summer blockbusters comes a bunch of new and fun characters. This year in particular we are greeted with many interesting characters in many interesting films, and not all of them are sequels! Here is the top 5 characters to be excited about in 2014!

FILMS: Maleficent (May 30th) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (August 8th)

While technically not “new” characters we’re being introduced to on the big screen, they are certainly long overdue for their theatrical returns.

Maleficent intrigues us because it is among the first Disney films ever to be solely about a baddie. She will be portrayed by Angelina Jolie this year and we expect her to do a darn good job at it, whether the film rocks or sucks. Our favorite pizza eating Ninja Turtles have not had a ‘decent’ run on the silver screen since the 1990 film, where they were created with practical costumes. This time however they are CGI creations using the always welcomed motion-capture technique. And while their new designs are a bit more extreme and mature this time around, we cannot wait to see them in action!

FILM: X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23rd)

Oh yes the X-Men films, the franchises timeline is choppy but you still manage to keep us excited for more. Thankfully, the next title in 20th Century Fox’s movie franchise is all about timelines! And while a number of our favorite mutants return, there is also a lot of new characters thrown in. This includes the likes of Blink, Bishop, Fox’s version of Quicksilver, Warpath, and obviously the mutant hunting Sentinels. We will have to find out which ones were the best when the film hits theaters late this May!

FILM: Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 27th)

As the start of the next Transformers trilogy, this fourth installment in the Bay-splosion box office franchise promises many interesting characters such as Crosshairs and Galvatron. However the best one to look forward to is the long time fan favorite, Grimlock. This monstrosity is a mechanical T-Rex and leader of the Dinobots. He is very big and very aggressive, so how in the world did Optimus Prime get his permission to ride him into battle!? Either way, we cannot wait to see him on the big screen!

FILM: Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1st)

Guardians is shaping up to be the most interesting film to release this year, and everyone has high hopes for it. We will be introduced to two members of the team that, arguably, everybody is looking forward to seeing. Rocket is a humanoid raccoon created with cybernetic implants, and he loves to shoot very big guns. He will be voiced by Bradley Cooper. Groot is a giant alien tree monster with the ability to rebuild and quick heal himself in battle. He will be voiced and motion-captured by Vin Diesel, who more than likely got the role thanks to his brilliant portrayal as the giant in the Iron Giant animated film.

FILM: Godzilla (May 16th)

I’m sure many people saw this coming. Here is another character long overdue for a return, and he’s coming back with a bang!

The new Godzilla reboot should make up for the last horrible American made Godzilla film. This new one has a lot to look forward to, Bryan Cranston, a darker tone, and especially the new MUTO creature. But in the end, Godzilla is the number one thing that everybody is going to look forward to. Not only is this version closely faithful to the classic Godzilla look, but it’s also the biggest and most threatening one to date! Be sure to see this film at a theater where the volume is up to the max!

Hope everyone liked this Top five, I used characters from films that haven’t currently released yet (sorry Winter Soldier and any cool Amazing Spider-man 2 characters :/ ). What characters do you think you liked/will like this summer?
