The MCU Legacy: Spider-Man
Welcome back! Only three to go! This time it’s Spider-Man, arguably the most popular and cultural superhero character ever made! Please read, and don’t forget to read prior posts as well!
NAME: Peter Benjamin Parker
POWERS: Spider physiology, superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility and equilibrium, enhanced senses, wall and web crawling
APPEARANCES: 4 (Endgame?) first appeared in Iron Man 2 (2010)
REFERENCES/MENTION: 1
AFFILIATION(S): the Avengers, Stark Industries, Midtown School of Science and Technology
EQUIPMENT: Web-shooters, utility belt, spider drone, suits with various capabilities, spider-signal
KNOWN FOR: Being recruited by Tony Stark during the Sokovian Accords, becoming Tony Stark’s potential protege, stopping the Vulture from heisting Stark Industries equipment, being the youngest member to join the Avengers.
Overview/Interpretation: Peter Parker was canonically first seen at the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 (2010), where he was wearing a toy Iron Man helmet and toy blasters. During the attack from the Hammer tech drones, he bravely defied the drone and was eventually saved by Iron Man himself who thanked him and then left him in awestruck.
Years later we eventually see a teenage version of him in Captain America: Civil War (2016) where he is found and recruited by Tony Stark to help stop Captain America from escaping to aid the Winter Soldier. Since then he has been under watchful surveillance by both Stark and his assistant Happy Hogan until he is needed once again. The excitable Peter Parker cannot wait for the call and the chance to properly join the Avengers but sadly too long a time has past since his prior aid, leaving Peter to continue his typical lively routine.
After discovering the illegal selling of advanced weapondry from prior major events such as Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015), he quickly acts upon it and soon discovers the Vulture and his plans on successfully stealing such weapons for profit under the radar of major heroes such as Stark himself. And while Peter is determined to stop him, Tony practically refuses to let him go after this criminal which eventually leads to the eventual loss of his advanced Spider-Man suit. But despite this, he continues to go after Vulture until he finally succeeds in stopping him.
Tony Stark is pleased by this and admits, somewhat, to his wrong of not aiding Peter in this crisis. He then brings him to the Avengers facility to properly introduce him to the public as a new Avengers member, even providing him the newly designed Iron Spider suit, but Peter refuses to instead continue being a street-level hero.
Eventually he is caught up in the crisis of Infinity War, where he does finally gain the Iron Spider suit and accompanies both Tony Stark and Doctor Strange to the planet Titan. They attempt to stop Thanos from pursuing his path of gaining the Infinity Stones but they fail, and as a result Peter becomes a victim of the Decimation which shocks and saddens Tony Stark who couldn’t protect him from danger.
My Opinion: I don’t think anyone thought that Spider-Man would ever be involved in the MCU, due to the fact that he is still owned by SONY pictures in terms of film rights. However an amazing deal was made, and Spider-Man somewhat came home to be involved with the other heroes!
Spider-Man is a very likable character that is absolutely the most popular one in the whole world, perhaps even more so than the likes of both Batman and Superman! So obviously I really like him! And I also really enjoy his roster of villains which I hope to see more of in the future.
While a victim of the Decimation, he is getting a sequel this year which will also be the final Phase three film. I highly look forward to it!
Thanks again for reading if ya did! Next up is the King of Wakanda himself, Black Panther! Until then…
