SoulsBorne Month: Top 20 Hardest Bosses – #13
Oh look another one! Here is our thirteenth entry in our hardest of hards list! Hope you all enjoy this pick, might be surprising for some…
***Level of difficulties we’ll see throughout this list:
Yellow-Orange = Bosses that are not necessarily hard on their own, but hard by either cheap tricks, gimmicks, or location.
Orange = Bosses that are tough on their own, but mainly tough due to a gimmick or trick. The difference here is that the boss may heavily rely on these attributes.
Red = Bosses that are hard to beat in either numbers or skill, truly tough bros.
Maroon = Bosses that are seemingly to near impossible, the god bosses of all bosses!
13. Old King Allant (Demon’s Souls)
Attacks: Rapid Swings and Slashes, Lunge Attack, Constant Speed-Dash Swings and Slashes, an Soul Blast/Explosion, Soul Drain
Rewards: False King’s Demon’s Soul
Rare Rewards: While not technically a rare reward, his defeat does open the doors to defeating the original King Allant, which gets you access to obtaining the Soulbrandt sword that the False King uses. It is a very powerful weapon for sure.
Our Level: Maroon
Description: Ha! And you thought there wasn’t going to be a single Demon’s Souls boss on this list. Well, when it comes to the Playstation 3 exclusive title, arguably the true start of the Dark Souls bandwagon, there is certainly plenty of classic and fun bosses throughout the 2009 title despite the complications of bugs and all. If we were to choose one boss of note from this game as one of the toughest, it would certainly be final boss known as Old King Allant.
Also known as the “False King” due to just being a demonic copy of the true King Allant, this Archdemon boss is as powerful as he is irritating. Truthfully, you may not have the best of times with this guy due to his attack pool. Almost all of his attacks are quick and rapid successions of countless slashes and swings, not only are each of his attacks strong but they can even be stamina killers if certain stats aren’t in your favor. There is a small window chance for healing or to recuperate after he uses one of his heavier attacks, but that can still be seen as a very tiny window that may be hard for new players to see the first couple goes.
Another thing to keep in mind, arguably the most important thing to note, is his signature attack known as “Soul Drain”. This attack is quite possibly the most dangerous move known possibly throughout the entire Soulsborne series of games, certainly the most harmful one to your personally created character in-game. Not only does it deal a great ton of damage to the player, but it also literally takes one level from your character away. This also means that he can take away your previous stat increase as well. Sure there are those that may see this sort of inclusion of a move on a final boss as the ultimate middle finger to the players, but one must consider the games original intent. While certainly not the first game to be hard, it is the first to be made in a way where both death and difficulty mean something unexpectedly unique. Being the first game in this particular core style it is possible to pass this off as experimentation in a sense, considering this was originally intended to just be a spiritual successor to the original King’s Field games before From Software continued the work in a different path and eventually opening the doors to the later Dark Souls classic.
So why would a boss with such a killer move be so low at number thirteen on this list? Well it’s simply due to the fact that, with a little time and effort, you can actually learn to dodge these killer moves fairly well. While the fight is still difficult, you can learn his body positions and determine his next move, as well as being fairly capable of rolling away from attacks without taking much damage if damage is even taken. Even his signature move can easily be avoided by applying a properly timed roll. Yeah we’re sorry for those Demon’s Souls fans out there hoping to see a character like this a bit higher on the list.
Still though, he is one tough guy that deserves to be on this mega list at a fairly high spot, so he’ll happily oblige to be on the number thirteen spot.
Hope this was fun, I’m sure the next entry will be quite the pick as well…
